The George Takei celebrity doll depicts him as Lieutenant Hikaru Sulu in the original Star Trek television series.  The show ran from 1966-1969 on NBC. Takei is an American actor, political and human rights activist, author, and social media master.

This Lt. Sulu doll was made by Playmates Toys , Inc. in  1996 as part of the  Star Trek Collector Edition: “Where No Man Has Gone Before” .  This series commemorates  the television actors in the pilot episode of the original series at the 30th anniversary of the show and also includes the classic characters: Captain James T. Kirk, Mr. Spock, Lt. Montgomery Scott.   The dolls are all 9 inch figures and come with special stands that attach by plastic peg into a hole in their boots.  Accessories include special Stafrleet Phaser, communicator, tricorder and the action base stand.
