The Lucille Ball celebrity doll depicts her as Lucy Ricardo from the sitcom I Love Lucy. The black-and-white series originally ran from 1951 to 1957 on CBS.  Lucille Ball was an actress, comedian, and television producer.  She dies in 1989 at the age of 77.

In 1998 Mattel began a line of collector Lucy dolls fashioned after well known episodes of the show.  Leading up to the 50th anniversary of the show in 2001 and for another decade, Mattel produced  at least 15 different Lucy dolls in the Mattel collection and two are in sets with Ethel Mertz (Vivian Vance) and eventually the anniversary edition with Ricky Ricardo (Desi Arnaz).

This version of the Lucille Ball doll is with her husband Desi Arnaz as Ricky Ricardo from Episode 50 of I Love Lucy “Lucy is Enciente”. At that time you could not use the word pregnant on television, thus the French replacement word. In the episode Lucy goes to the Tropicana to tell Ricky she is expecting. The Lucy and Ricky set is  part of Mattel’s Timeless Treasures series.

This Lucille Ball celebrity doll is wearing a dark blue velvet and silver laced collared and cuffed turquoise satin coat over a matching slip dress. Real nylon stockings, diamond like studded earrings, and navy blue high heals finish the outfit. The doll bends at the elbows. shoulders, knees and hips. The neck rotates fully and moves up and down.

The museum also owns the first edition from the collection called “Lucy Does a TV Commercial,” where Lucy attempts to sell Vitameatavegamin and  Lucille Ball doll from the Matching Dress set ( “Lucy and Ethel Buy the Same Dress”).
