Pope John Paul II
The Pope John Paul II celebrity doll portrays him as himself, the Supreme Pontiff of the Roman Catholic Church and Sovereign of Vatican City from 1978 until his death in 2005. The doll was made by Blue Corner, LLC. in 2002 and was licensed by St. Claude de la Colombiere.
Pope John Paul II took more than 92 trips outside of Italy and understood more than 20 languages. The doll box commemorates his fluency in eight languages by printing the Lord’s Prayer in Latin, French, Italian, Polish, Spanish, Portuguese, German, and English. His story runs around three sides of the box.
The doll is fully articulated similar to a typical GI Joe. The outfit is the Pope’s cream robes over a white cotton gown with brown shoes and nude colored knee socks. The hair and white zucchetto (skullcap) and hair are sculptured vinyl. The doll includes replicas of the Pope’s miter (headdress) and silver crosier (staff with cross on the top).
