The Franklin Delano Roosevelt (FDR) celebrity doll depicts him as himself, the 32nd President of the United States. He was four times elected and served from 1933 to his death in 1945.  The doll was manufactured by Toypresidents, Inc. in 2003.

It is a talking doll that has FDR’s  voice saying 25 unique and authentic phrases like “Let me assert my firm belief that the only thing we have to fear is fear itself.”, “There never has been, there isn’t now and there never will be, any race of people on earth fit to serve as masters over their fellow men.”, and “Life’s ideals are to me measured in other than material things.” by pushing on the lapel of the medium great hand-tailored wool suit.

The clothing is above average on this Toypresidents doll with hand tailoring details that are true to the 1940s time period like traditional double-breasted worsted wool styling and suspenders.  Extras like tiny buttons and snaps sewn on, removable clothes, elastic stirrups keep pants down and shirt tucked in make it both a collectors doll and an educational toy for playing.

The doll wears a wool grey suit with tiny black buttons on the front, closure by snaps.   Matching grey pants with snap in front fly held up by elastic suspenders and no belt complete the outfit.

Under the coat there is a white cotton collared shirt with tiny white buttons and closure by snap and  a navy blue and white striped tie.   Black plastic dress shoes and black knit socks finish off the feet.

The doll’s underwear are white cotton boxers with blue planes imprinted on them which symbolize FDR as the first president to travel by airplane and his strong push to increase the US Air Force.  Toypresidents personalized the boxers of many of their president dolls.

The dolls body has gray molded hair and the hands hold the black with a brass accented cane.  Above the battery compartment the Toypresident’s seal is stamped into the back of the torso.

It also contains an official Toypresidents biographical pamphlet on President Franklin D. Roosevelt and a black adjustable doll stand in the box insert.  The 3 button batteries (LR44/L1154) are changeable in a screwed on compartment on the back of the doll.  The doll is fully articulated at the major joints including wrists and ankles and very easy to pose.
