Sue Bird
The Sue Bird celebrity doll depicts her as herself, an American professional basketball player. Mattel honored Sue Bird with a release of a Role Model Signature Barbie on July 15, 2024. The doll was designed by Suim Noh and retailed for $30.
Bird is one of the best all time women’s basketball player and played her entire career as a member of the Seattle Storm WNBA team. She led them to their four (2004, 2010, 2018, 2020) WNBA Championship over three decades. She was drafted directly from the University of Connecticut with her stellar college 111-4 record. Bird also won five Olympic Gold Medals in Basketball. After the 2022 season, she retired as a professional player and the Storm retired her number 10 the following year. She now has a production company for her A Touch More podcast with her partner professional soccer player Megan Rapinoe and is a minority owner of the National Women’s Soccer Federation team NJ/NY Gotham FC and the WNBA Seattle Storm.

The doll comes wearing a red, white, and blue No. 10 basketball jersey and red basketball shorts with an elastic waist. The jersey opens in the back with a strip of Velcro. On the feel are a pair of white sneakers painted with black details. There are also white faux socks which are a short tube a stretch material that extend up from the top of the shoes to appear as athletic socks.
The doll’s face is painted with brown eyes, tan freckles all over the cheeks and forehead, and an open-mouth natural pink lips big smile. Her soft, rooted brown long curly hair is styled in pony tail on top of the head.
Accessories include a smaller than 1/6 scale Barbie branded basketball with a plastic hold attached to fit in the doll’s hand and a black basted plastic doll stand.
The dolls is Barbie MTM regular body with full articulation at the neck, shoulders, upper arms (twist), elbow (double jointed), wrists, chest(tilts slightly), hips, thigh(twists), knees(doble jointed), and ankles.
