The Ryan Gosling celebrity doll depicts him at 41 years old as the character Ken in the July 2023 Warner Bros. Pictures  comedy film Barbie The Movie, directed by Greta Gerwig.  The doll was released on June 1, 2003 by Mattel.  The denim clad Ken doll was designed by Javier Meabe and retailed for $50.00.  See all the Barbie The Movie dolls in the museum’s collection.

Ryan Gosling is a Canadian actor who made his acting debut at 13 years old on the Disney Channel The Mickey Mouse Club from 1993-1995.  He was Justin Timberlake’s roommate for 6 months and was in the same cast as Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera.  He went on to do other family entertainment movies followed by independent films until his breakout roles in The Notebook and Half Nelson. He has been in pretty much a film a year since 2006 and his film’s gross box office revenues have most certainly surpassed $2 billion and heading to $3 billion with the release of Barbie The Movie.

The Ryan Gosling Ken doll comes wearing a white washed full denim outfit.  The top is a sleeveless jean jacket vest with fringed sleeves. The jacket opens in the front with metal buttons and real flap pockets. It is all double stitched to prevent fraying.

The jean pants open with Velcro in the back with a front metal button and real jean style pockets and belt loops in the front and back.  The denim material is slightly stretchy.   Underneath the pants are a pair of men’s cotton brief underwear with “Ken” printed around the waist band.  The Ken band protrudes above the waistline of jeans for the 1992 Marky Mark Calvin Klein tribute look.

One the feet are a pair of high top “K” white sneakers.

The face is painted with side placed blue eyes and opened mouth natural pink lips.  The blond rooted hair is styles combed back and stiff with product.

The body is an articulated original Ken with articulation at the neck, shoulders, elbows, wrist, hips, and knees.  The legs only separate about 10 degrees and the torso and ankles are fixed.

Included in the box is a black base plastic stand with a clear pole along with an official Mattel Certificate of Authenticity.
