Simu Liu (Shang-Chi)
The Simu Liu celebrity doll portrays him at 31 years old as Shang-Chi from the 2021 Marvel Studios film Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. The action figure was made by Hot Toys Collectibles in 2023. (MMS614)
Simu Liu is a Canadian actor first known for his television role as Jung Kim in the 2016-2021 Canadian sitcom, Kim’s Convenience. He also has a role as an alternative Ken in the 2023 Warner Bros. Pictures Barbie movie. The museum has a Simu Liu Ken doll in the collection.
The Simu Liu celebrity figure comes wearing the Shang Chi costume. The 3/4 sleeve, metallic red and black rubbery type material top is diamond embossed with Shang-Chi logo pattern on the chest and flexible. The top is actually a vest over a shirt with a red with black collar foam like collar and the flexible rubbery sleeves. Having it as two pieces helps with the articulation of the doll. You can see the red material at the armpit. The vest shoulders have black cap sleeves. The top is not removable without cutting the vest.
The pants are black with an elastic waist band made of a stretch material with a raised seam up the front of the legs. The shoes/feet are a black leather sculpted look with scuffed white banded gum rubber look sides. The red soles are also sculpted. They are hinged ball jointed and removable with attached black socks.
The head sculpt is an excellent representation of Simu Liu. The hair is molded painted black and the eyes are a detailed dark brown with a gloss finish. The skin is hand painted with detailed eyebrows, moles and face stubble. The head is removable and both tilts and pivots.
The action figure comes with two trays of accessories. It includes 10 interchangeable hands for weapons holding, martial arts poses, fists, gestured and clawed and a pair of swap out forearms with the 10 rings attached.
Two simulated wood painted plastic straight bo staff weapons: one with translucent textured ends and one with metallic red painted textured ends.
A replica green pendant necklace of the one Shaun’s mother gave him as a child. You must remove the head to put it on the figure.
There are three different translucent amber, yellow to white plastic ring power effects. They attach to the forearms, fists or shoes (a copy of the Hot Toys instructions is posted in the image gallery.). Three full sets of 10 power rings are included: one set of separate rings, one attached to fore arms, and one in the translucent tubes. An additional 5 ring half set is also on the shooting wrist fire effect. The rings are detail molded with engravings and painted in multiple metallic colors with a rim of luminous paint for a black light display effect. The separate rings can be used in one of the flame effects.
The included stand has a waist grabbing attachment with a dynamic bending post and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings themed hexagon base. A spare set of wrist joints is also included.
The action figure has 30 points of articulation for just about any pose limited by the costume and padding restrictions. The knees and elbows are double jointed for greater than 90 degree bend.
The Shang-Chi action figure is sold at Sideshow Collectibles
and it may appear for resale at Amazon or Ebay. The Celebrity Doll Museum has affiliate accounts with Ebay and Amazon and a small commission is paid for qualifying purchases.
Here is a YouTube video of the trailer for the Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings movie. It shows Simu Liu as both Shawn and Shang Chi. At the very end is a bit of flaming ring action.
