Robert Downey Jr.
The Robert Downey, Jr. celebrity doll depicts him at 48 years old as the character Tony Stark / Iron Man in the 2019 Marvel Studios film Avengers: Endgame. The action figure was made by SW Toys in 2019 and lists as “1970s Stark (Black Suit) 1:6 Scale Figure – FS021” . The outfit is based on the scene where Stark returns to the 1970s to capture an infinity stone and meets his father. He wore the Shield uniform suit to sneak in the lab.
Born in Manhattan to actor parents, Downey Jr. became a child actor in his father’s movies, was later part of the Brat Pack group of young actors in the late 80s and early 90s and won recognition for his portrayal of Chaplin in 1992. Marvel’s Iron Man (2008) and the 10 Avenger movies he appeared in over the next 11 years, ending with Avenger:Endgame, brought him worldwide stardom.
The Robert Downey Jr doll comes wearing a dark charcoal gray suit made to look like Shield lab coat Tony Stark wore when he went back in time to 1970. The doll version if much more tailored than the baggy one in the movie. The tie pattern while very nice is also different.
The lined gray lab coat has a blue and yellow Shield-like decal on the chest pocket, tiny black buttons, and hangs down the thighs with a split in the back. The matching pants have a black pleather belt with a silver buckle, a front Velcro opening, and real dress pants pockets on the side and back. Underneath the coat is a white dress shirt with tiny white rivet buttons down the front and at the cuffs and tucks into the pants. The doll body waist is padded with a white band to give the stomach area more bulk. The blue with white patterned tie is thin and hangs straight down to the buckle.
The black plastic dress shoe feet are ball jointed to the body. There are no socks.
The only accessory aside from the 3 extra sets of hands (4 total) are a pair of silver frame, blue tinted Tony Stark glasses. The cover photo shows a briefcase in his hand but for some reason it wasn’t included with the final released figure. It can be purchased separately at places like Etsy.com.
The doll is articulated at neck, shoulders, upper arm, elbows, wrist, chest, hips, thighs, knees and ankles. The suit prevents the doll from reaching its full articulation a bit.
