The Kim Tae-hyung celebrity doll depicts him at 23 years old as V, a vocalist and member of the South Korean K-pop group BTS managed under Big Hit Entertainment. Kim Tae-hyung is a singer and songwriter/producer.  The doll was released by Mattel in September 2019 and is one of seven in  BTS Prestige collection styled after their LOVE YOURSELF 結 Version S album jacket photos. The deluxe dolls were release in black boxes at a retail price of $50.00.

The 2019 Mattel Prestige BTS dolls star in a reenactment of the BTS Episode of the LOVE YOURSELF 結 album jacket photo shoot. Mattel made celebrity dolls with the Version S outfits worn for the Love Yourself: Answer album photos as seen in the red box section of their photo shoot episode.

BTS was founded in 2013 and has made it to the top of the charts in the US and UK as well as in Asia. BTS is short for Bangtan Sonyeondan which translates to “Bulletproof Boy Scouts” and informally as Bangtan Boys.  The entire set of both the IDOL and Prestige dolls is represented in the Celebrity Doll Museum.

The Version S outfit for V is a black suit.  The lined cotton dress jacket is trimmed with black lace at the collar and around the front and bottom. It has a chest pocket, tiny black buttons at the cuffs and one at the front opening. Underneath the jacket is a sleeveless multi-colored machine embroidered flower vest with a high collar. Down the front are 3 cloth flowers as buttons with snaps beneath to close the vest.

Simple black matching pants with front Velcro fly and real front pockets finish the look.  On the left hand is a large gold plastic bug ring that wraps around all the fingers. The right hand is making the peace gesture. On the feet are pink plastic loafers with a gold painted buckle.

The face is painted with brown eyes and rose pink lips that match the two toned hair.

No socks under the shoes and skin toned underwear is molded into the body. 

The eyes and lips are painted through some kind of textured dot matrix printing,  The bright pink and blond rooted hair is well styled and sprayed with product to hold it in place.  The doll’s head is stamped with ©2019 MATTEL at the neckline.

The 11 point articulation is somewhat limited for dance poses. Head rotates and tilts slightly down but doesn’t go up.  The body/waist  is fixed, the shoulders rotate around but hit a stop and must be reversed to position. The hips articulate only forward and back but not side to side.  Knees, elbows, ankles, and wrists bend and twist.  The ankles rotate in all directions which makes it easier to balance and stand the doll. The doll has extra long lower legs.

The V doll comes in solid black box with silver BTS motif. The back has a photo of the K-pop group from the Love Yourself album jacket photo shoot. Included is a black stand with a clear thigh grabbing pole.
