The Kim Nam-joon celebrity doll depicts him at 25 years old as RM (Rap Monster), a rapper and leader of the South Korean K-pop group BTS managed under Big Hit Entertainment. Kim Tae-hyung is a singer and songwriter/producer and solo artist.  The doll was released by Mattel in September 2019 and is one of seven in  BTS Prestige collection styled after their LOVE YOURSELF 結 Version S album jacket photos. The deluxe dolls were release in black boxes at a retail price of $50.00.

The 2019 Mattel Prestige BTS dolls star in a reenactment of the BTS Episode of the LOVE YOURSELF 結 album jacket photo shoot. Mattel made celebrity dolls with the Version S outfits worn for the Love Yourself: Answer album photos as seen in the red box section of their photo shoot episode.

BTS was founded in 2013 and has made it to the top of the charts in the US and UK as well as in Asia. BTS is short for Bangtan Sonyeondan which translates to “Bulletproof Boy Scouts” and informally as Bangtan Boys.  The entire set of both the IDOL and Prestige dolls is represented in the Celebrity Doll Museum.

The Version S outfit replicated on the Presige RM doll consist of a red, blue and silver lined plaid suit jacket made with interweaving ribbon and silver trim at sleeves, collar, and pocket flaps. The lining is white. Underneath is a beige short sleeved t-shirt decorated with a 3 buckle plastic belt with silver studs around the waist above the pants.

The blue metallic pants are slightly boot cut and Velcro open at the front. On the feet are a pair of black plastic with red flowered design molded loafers.  A silver plastic necklace with front hanging plastic molded chains hang down the front. The two outer chains hang to the waist.

No socks under the shoes and skin toned underwear is molded into the body. 

The dark brown eyes and dark pink lips are painted through some kind of textured dot matrix printing. The head mold includes his signature dimple molded into the left cheek.   The beige blond rooted hair is well styled and sprayed with product to hold it in place.  The doll’s head is stamped with ©2019 MATTEL at the neckline.

The 11 point articulation is somewhat limited for dance poses. Head rotates and tilts slightly down but doesn’t go up.  The body/waist  is fixed, the shoulders rotate around but hit a stop and must be reversed to position. The hips articulate only forward and back but not side to side.  Knees, elbows, ankles, and wrists bend and twist.  The ankles rotate in all directions which makes it easier to balance and stand the doll. The doll has extra long lower legs. The left hand is molded with a special heart gesture.

The RM doll comes in solid black box with silver BTS motif. The back has a photo of the K-pop group from the Love Yourself album jacket photo shoot. Also included is a black hard plastic stand with a clear thigh-grabbing stand.
