Michael J. Fox
The Michael J. Fox celebrity doll depicts him at 24 years old in his role as Marty McFly in the 1985 blockbuster film Back to the Future. The Version 2 Michael J Fox doll was made by Hot Toys Limited and released in 2021. It was sold as part of a set of figures that includes his dog Einstein.
Fox is a Canadian-American actor whose career began in the role of Alex P. Keaton in the NBC show Family Ties (1982-1989). Back to the Future projected him to teen idol status and a series of movies and television show well into the 90s until he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease. In 2000 he became an advocate for Parkinson’s research and founded the Michael J. Fox Foundation. His career limited his acting but he had Emmy winning recurring roles until his retirement in 2020 due to declining health.
The Hot Toys Version 2 figure of Michael J. Fox is a fully articulated with three extra pairs of hands and a full range of accessories including a Marty McFly Back to the Future doll stand.
The doll comes wearing 4 layers of clothing on the upper body. A red short sleeved t-shirt, a white with gray plaid collared cotton short-sleeved shirt, a cream paisley lined jean jacket, and an orange puffer style insulated vest. The jean jacket has inside and outside pockets, lined cuffs, and 3 badges attached to the left jacket chest. All the pieces are detailed with metal type flat buttons, real pockets, and finished seams.
The pants are blue jeans with gold jean threading, belt loops, and pockets. They are held up by a tiny pair of real clip on black elastic suspenders. On the feet are a pair of red and white sneakers and white socks.
Accessories include an 80’s style black calculator watch, a small working decal-ed skateboard with even dirty looking wheels, a cassette style walkman with wired headphones, a camcorder, a Hill Valley Telegraph newpaper (and note), extra hand connector, and a full functioning red nylon and tan faux leather backpack.
Last but not least the set includes Einstein the dog. While not articulated the head does turn slightly and it is fixed in a sitting position. The hand-painting, shading, sculpting, and coloring on both the doll and the dog are extremely realistic and detailed.
The doll is 30 point articulation. It includes neck, head, shoulders, bicep turn, elbows, wrists, waist, hips, thigh turn, knees and ankles. All the clothes are removable.
