The Lupita Nyong’o celebrity doll depicts her at 39 years old as the character Nakia in the Marvel Studio’s November 2022 released Black Panther: Wakanda Forever movie. The doll was made by World of EPI Company in 2022 as part of their Black Panther Fresh Fierce Collection of dolls. The collection includes: Okoye (Danai Gurira), Shuri (Letitia Wright), and Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o). The doll retailed for $49.99 at Target.

The dolls were designed by Dr. Lisa Williams, founder of World of EPI, along with the World of EPI and Marvel teams and won the Toy Foundation 2022  TOTY Award for Doll of the Year.

Lupita Nyong’o is a Kenyan-Mexican actor. In 2014 she won an Academy Award for her supporting role in 12 Years a Slave, and nominations for two Primetime Emmy Awards and a Tony Award. Nyong’o was cast as Nakia in the original 2018 Black Panther movie and has reprised her role in the 2022 Black Panther:Wakanda Forever sequel.

NAKIA

The Nyong’o doll comes wearing a high neck, one-piece blue, lime green, brown stretch bodysuit which matches her Wakanda War Dogs Warrior outfit in Black Panther:Wakanda Forever. It has A Velco opening the back where the entire suit slides over the hips. The bodysuit is adorned with removable soft plastic lime green shoulder armor, a soft plastic blue belt which unbuttons, sturdy knee-hi soft rubber blue boots with attached lime green kneepads. A slit up the back makes them easy to remove. The outfit is very well made and well fitted. The legs of the body suit go down to the ankles.

The two toned rust red and dark brown hair is styled in waist-length dreadlocks with front section braided up and banded back on top of the head. The face is painted with dark brown eyes and dark pink natural lips.

The doll comes with hard plastic silver rings with a gold and black molded grabbing section detail that represent Nakia’s vibranium Ring Blades. The hands are both grab hand that can pretty much hold the rings in any angle position.

The doll is articulated at the neck (tilts forward and back and side to side about 15° in any direction, turns 360°), shoulders (turn 360° and up 90°), elbows (bend up almost 180°), wrists (turn 360° and bend up and down 90° each way), hips (can do splits in either direction, turn 360°, can sit upright with legs together or apart), and knees (bend back almost 180°). Torso and ankles are stiff and the feet while larger than a standard Barbie are in the high heel position. The doll is fairly easy to stand on its own with the sturdy boots. This doll could have used a turning joint in the upper arm because unfortunately the doll can’t be posed with a Wakanda salute because the arms won’t move in front of the body.
