Billie Eilish (Live – Cupertino, CA)
The Billie Eilish celebrity doll portrays her as herself at 17 years old, an award winning American singer and songwriter. The Live -Cupertino, CA version of the Billie Eilish doll is the first of her Awards Series and was made by Playmates Toys in 2021. There are also two other Playmate Billie Eilish celebrity dolls in the museum’s collection: Bad Guy and Live-Los Angeles, CA.
The doll is styled in the outfit Eilish wore for the Apple Music Awards Live performance on December 4, 2019 at the Steve Jobs Theater on Apple’s Cupertino campus. Eilish won the Apple Music inaugural 2019 Global Artist, Best Album and Songwriter of the Year (with her brother FINNEAS) awards.
The top is a hip length, light silvery gray satin, short sleeved shirt with silver glitter Blohsh (her one shoulder stick man emblem) logo repeated pattern. The below the knee, elastic waist shorts are made from the same material. In official photos the outfit appears to be white but it is actually a very light silver gray. The shirt opens in the back with Velcro strip and both are removable.
On the feet are white plastic high-top sneakers and white socks decorated with one glitter Blohsh and two glitter dots on the front above the shoe top. Both socks and shoes are removable.
The hair is black with lime green high lights at the top. It is styled in layers from chin length to mid back and comes with quite a bit of product to hold it in place. You can easily rinse it out. The two front stands of long black hair are tied to front of shirt with black thread to hold it in place.
Curator’s suggestion: If you are going to display or play with the doll, remove the clothing and wet the hair thoroughly, then comb the hair straight down, separating the hair you would like cascading down the front. Then take a 1.5 inch wide plastic strip about 5 inches long (cut from a plastic bag), and tape it wrapped around the head to hold the hair as flat as possible. Let it dry in place in the style of your choosing and the product re-drying will keep it in place. The doll looks more like Billie with the hair flattened to the head and the creases in the back from the neck holder will come out.
The doll is very well articulated and very playable, The neck (turns 360º, up and down 90º, tilts 10º), shoulders (ball joint with limitations at straight forward and backwards), elbows (180º), wrists (turns and 90º tilt), lower torso/waist (45º side to side and forward and back), hips (ball joint – 45º side to side and 90º front to back), knees (90º back), and ankles (360º turn, 45º up and down) all move. While the doll comes with a stand, the Billie Eilish doll can easily be balanced to stand on its own with the shoes on.
The doll comes with a hand microphone (taped to the backside of the folded instruction sheet) and a very light gray plastic doll stand with an adjustable level waist clip and removable pole. The base is stamped with the Billie Eilish Biohsh emblem in black.
The packaging and inserts are all eco-friendly cardboard with the exception of a plastic window to display the doll’s face and the plastic neck holder. Old fashion sting holds the doll in the box around the neck. The box can be refolded into a display diorama with a Steve Jobs Theater stage, tree set background photo.
