IBTIHAJ MUHAMMAD DOLL
“Through playing with Barbie, I was able to imagine and dream about who I could become. I love that my relationship with Barbie has come full circle and now I have my own doll wearing a hijab that the next generation of girls can use to play out their own dreams .
When Ibtihaj Muhammad’s parent sought a sport that would allow their daughter to fulfill her competitive nature and be fully covered in accordance with her faith, they discovered fencing. Ibtihaj excelled at the sport. Competing as a saber fencer on the US fencing team, she became the first female Muslim-American fencing champion to wear a hijab (a traditional head scarf). As a brilliant athlete, entrepreneur and inspiration to girls who never saw themselves represented, Ibtihaj is not only celebrated for her accolades but for embracing what made her stand out.. Ibtihaj is honored as a Barbie™ “Shero”, a woman who has broken boundaries to inspire the next generation of girls. Girls need more role models like Ibtihaj . Because imagining they can be anything is just the beginning. Actually seeing that they can makes all the differences.
Ibtihaj Muhammad Barbie® doll is fully posable and is dressed in her fencing uniform.
The doll comes wearing her US team fencing outfit. It include a white long sleeved attached between the legs Muhammad labeled jacket which Velcros closed in the front on the diagonal. Inside the jacket a small Barbie Collector label in sewn into the side seam. Under the jacket is a one piece white body suit with a Velcro closure along the back. The just below the white knee high fencing pants have a patch back pocket, a velcro closure in the back, and attached white cotton socks. The hijab is a separate piece that easily slips off and reveals the brunette doll hair styled in a tight bun in the back. Over the sock that are attached to the pants are a pair of white Nike sneakers with red soles and swish. A cardboard brace was in place over the left knee under the pants to keep the leg straight.
The doll was designed for play with it’s full articulation and removable clothing and accessories. The hijab is attached to the dolls head with a tiny plastic tag but it stays in place even if removed.
Accessories include a fencing face mask, glove and sabre. A doll stand and Mattel Certificate of Authenticity are attached to the back of the box insert.
The Muhammad doll is fully articulated. The head turns and tilts slightly. Wrists, elbows, shoulders, hips. knees, and ankles all bend and turn. The torso is stiff.
