The Robin Williams celebrity doll depicts him in his early 20s as the Mork character from the Mork & Mindy sitcom. The doll was manufactured in 1979 by Mattel. Mork & Mindy also starred Pam Dawber as Mindy. It was a science fiction comedy series that ran from 1978 until 1982 on ABC. Robin Williams got his start from the character Mork, an alien who comes to Earth from the planet Ork in an egg-shaped spaceship and finds Mindy living in Boulder, Colorado. The museum also has the Pam Dawber Mindy McConnell character doll.
The Robin Williams doll comes upside down in the box, the way Mork slept. It included a red hard plastic space pack with a pull string that talks using Mork expressions like “Nanu Nanu” and “Shazbot!”. The doll wears a red jump suit with silver vinyl decorations of the triangle on the chest and thick pant cuffs. Silver and black ribbon trim the collar and sleeve cuffs. The gray boots are removable with no socks.
The doll is pose-able with bending knees and up and down joints in the hips. The arms bend with wire and the shoulders have a bit more give than just up and down, but not much. The head twist back and forth.
